The MOP Talks: Anna Sui

A CONVERSATION BETWEEN ANNA SUI AND ILEEN GALLAGHER

Fashion designer Anna Sui spoke with Ileen Gallagher, editor of her book The Nineties x Anna Sui.

During the meeting, they reminisced about New York in the 1990s, a period that coincided with the beginning of Sui's career, and reflected on an effervescent and authentic decade.

They also discussed some of the designer's main creative references. At the end of the meeting, Sui signed copies of her book.

ANNA SUI

Anna Sui premiered her first runway show in 1991, and since then her activity has expanded from ready-to-wear to accessories, cosmetics, and fragrances. As an independent brand run by a woman, she has established herself as one of the most beloved and accomplished fashion designers. Sui has received numerous awards, including the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent (1992) & the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (2009). She has published three books, ANNA SUI by Andrew Bolton (2010), THE WORLD OF ANNA SUI by Tim Blanks (2017) and THE NINETIES X ANNA SUI (2025). Her work was featured in the exhibition “The World of Anna Sui,” which has been shown in cities such as London, Tokyo, New York, Shanghai, Ft. Lauderdale, Charlotte, Phoenix and More. A passionate advocate for New York’s Garment District, Sui has located her business and produced fashion lines in New York City for the past forty years.
