The MOP Talks: Fran Lebowitz
On September 10 at 7:00 p.m., the MOP Center in A Coruña will host a new MOP Talk, this time featuring Fran Lebowitz in conversation with writer Daniel Mendelsohn. Following the discussion between the authors, there will be a Q&A session with Lebowitz, and the event will conclude with a book signing.
Given the limited capacity (200 people) of the venue where this event will take place, attendance requires obtaining a free ticket in advance (maximum 2 tickets per person) through the MOP Foundation website (www.themopfoundation.org).
Tickets will be available starting Thursday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m.
Fran Lebowitz
Fran Lebowitz is one of today's most astute social observers, as evidenced by the sharp opinions she expresses in her frequent interviews. Her writing is equally forthright and unapologetic.
Lebowitz worked odd jobs, before being hired by Andy Warhol as a columnist for Interview. That was followed by a stint at Mademoiselle. Her first book, a collection of essays titled Metropolitan Life, was a bestseller, as was a second collection, Social Studies. By turns ironic, facetious, deadpan, sarcastic, wry, wisecracking, and waggish, Lebowitz’s prose is wickedly entertaining. Both books were collected in The Fran Lebowitz Reader, published in Spain in 2021 by Tusquets under the title Un día cualquiera en Nueva York.
In 2010 Martin Scorsese directed a documentary about Lebowitz for HBO titled Public Speaking. A limited documentary series, Pretend It's a City, also directed by Martin Scorsese, premiered on Netflix in 2021, and was nominated for the 2021 Emmys in the Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series category.
Lebowitz was named to Vanity Fair’s International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 2008.
Daniel Mendelsohn
Writer Daniel Mendelsohn (New York, 1960) is internationally recognized for works such as An Odyssey, Three Rings, and The Lost.
Mendelsohn is also the author of the most recent translation of Homer's Odyssey into English, published in 2025.
